Josen Masangkay Diaz (she/her + they/them) is a student and teacher of race, gender, colonialism, and authoritarianism. She is an assistant professor of Ethnic Studies at the University of San Diego. a.t. furuya (they/them) lives on Kumeyaay land. They are trans, agender, queer, Japanese American organizer. The majority of their focus is in helping LGBTQ+ youth access basic life necessities and also opportunities to thrive. They build, act, struggle, and grow within a transformative justice framework meaning they believe in accountability as care and they believe in prison abolition. a.t. and their partner Dominic have a bunny named Mina and are full time caregivers for auntie Joy, a living legend. Sarath Sarinay Suong (he/him) was born in Khao I Dang refugee camp after his family fled Cambodia’s civil war. They resettled in his hometown of Revere, Massachusetts where he learned about community organizing as a working class queer refugee. Sarath is the National Director of Southeast Asian Freedom Network (SEAFN), a movement family of Southeast Asian grassroots organizations united to fight for abolition.

Featuring Mimi Kim, Co-Founder of INCITE! and Founder of Creative Interventions. Mimi Kim is the founder of Creative Interventions and a co-founder of INCITE! She has been a long-time activist, advocate and researcher challenging gender-based violence at its intersection with state violence and creating community accountability, transformative justice and other community-based alternatives to criminalization. As a second generation Korean American, she locates her political work in global solidarity with feminist anti-imperialist struggles, seeking not only the end of oppression but of the creation of liberation here and now. Mimi is also an Associate Professor of social work at California State University, Long Beach.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Amidst a pandemic, We All We Got Navigators stepped up and shifted from volunteers to organizers. They will share their experience of what it's been like to model solidarity, both in the community and in their everyday lives. County - including Students Deserve, Black Lives Matter-LA, Brothers, Sons, Selves Coalition, Reclaim Our Schools LA, Community Coalition, Labor/Community Strategy Center, InnerCity Struggle, CADRE, UTLA and more - have pushed the School Board to implement a Police-Free LAUSD. Since last June, LAUSD students, parents, teachers & community members have called on the School Board to Fully Defund & Eliminate the LA School Police Department, and fund Black futures!" Reclaim Our Schools Los Angeles: Who We Are: We are a Los Angeles coalition of parents, educators, students, and community members working to improve access and advance opportunities in public education for all students so they thrive in the classroom, in their communities, and beyond. I have been organizing parents and students into power since 2008, and have been on the frontlines of education reform for Black and other Indigenous students of Color within the LAUSD school system. I am a firm believer that all students deserve a healthy, holistic, transformative education! The whole needs of the child should always be at the forefront of education, which includes family supports that remove barriers to academic success! Students should thrive, and not just "make it across the stage." Jazmin Garcia Started my journey as an educational activist with Eastside Padres Contra La Privatizacion, fighting against the privatization of public education. My journey led me to Reclaim Our Schools Los Angeles, where I became a parent leader and now a community organizer. Everyday I am honored to be part of Reclaim Our School Los Angeles, a coalition of four anchor organizations, parents, students, educators and community working towards a police-free, racially just education in LA unified, that is representative and rooted in our communities. Kelsey Kelsey Daniels she/her - An organizer, artist, and baddie/scholar, Kelsey Daniels believes in the power of sharing stories.She has a FIERCE love for her community and has been blessed to build with several amazing orgs (March For Black Womxn San Diego, Black Lives Matter San Diego, We All We Got SD etc..) committed to collective liberation of those intentionally marginalized by systems of power. In addition to organizing, Kelsey uses her online platform to lead with vulnerability in facilitating discussions around fat liberation, mental health, anti Black racism and more. Nancy Nguyen (she/her/hers) Civic Engagement Organizer, Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans A child to working-class Vietnamese refugees and granddaughter to a prisoner of war, Nancy Nguyen understands the multigenerational impact of war and the need for abolition of prisons, borders, police, capitalism, and imperialism. Nancy has a collection of case management, legislative, public policy and advocacy work.
